The Tarot Garden is an artistic park located in Garavicchio, in the municipality of Capalbio, in the province of Grosseto. Born from the vision of the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, this enchanting place is populated by imposing sculptures, 12 to 15 meters tall, representing the 22 major arcana of the Tarot. The inspiration for this monumental project, to which the artist dedicated much of her life, came from her visits to Gaudí's Park Güell in Barcelona and the Park of the Monsters in Bomarzo.
The statues, made of steel and concrete, are covered in a vibrant mosaic of mirrors, glass, and colored ceramics. This technique gives the works a unique luminosity that changes with the light of day, creating an ever-changing and evocative atmosphere. Each sculpture is the artist's personal interpretation of symbolic figures such as the Magician, the High Priestess, the Empress, and the Fool, inviting visitors on a journey of inner discovery. At Niki de Saint Phalle's request, guided tours are not available inside the garden, leaving each visitor free to interpret the works according to their own sensibilities.
The journey through the Tarot Garden winds through a truly fantastic city, where every corner holds a surprise. Among the most significant works are:
