In Predazzo, the mountain summer ends with the cows returning to the valley. On October 3 and 4, 2026, the Val di Fiemme celebrates the Desmontegada de le Vache , the return of cows and farmers from the mountain pastures where they spent the warm months. There are cowbells, cheese, stalls in the square, and, for those visiting with children, plenty to do between Saturday and Sunday.
The center of the festival is Piazza SS. Filippo e Giacomo. On Sunday, it also moves to the former riding stables in Löze, where this year there's a new space for lunch and music.
The moment everyone looks forward to is Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The festively decorated cows pass through the streets of the town center accompanied by the farmers and their bells, then the parade ends at the former Löze riding stables. For children, it's a memorable sight: the animals are large, close together, and not at all shy. It's best to arrive a little early and choose a spot along the route, because the town center fills up quickly.
The program for the little ones is concentrated between Saturday and Sunday, with different activities depending on their age.
Saturday, October 3rd. At 10:30 a.m. in the square, there's the " Little Cheesemaker ," hosted by the Predazzo and Moena Social Dairy: children transform milk into cheese with the help of a cheesemaker. It's free, lasts about 45 minutes, and seats are limited to 20, so it's best to reserve online or at the dairy stand. At 4:30 p.m., at La Stazione – Destinazione Cultura, there will be a reading aloud, "Moo... cche storie!" , for children ages 3 to 6, with free admission.
Sunday, October 4th. The Geological Museum of the Dolomites offers a workshop at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on painting with bol, the red ochre used by the Fiemme shepherds (ages 6 to 12, free with the Fiemme Cembra Guest Card, otherwise 5 euros). In the square, at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, there will be a workshop with wood carving where you can take home a decoration (ages 4 and up, accompanied by an adult, free donation, registration at the Festival del Gusto stand). Admission to the museum is free all day, with continuous hours from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
If children are between 3 and 8 years old and can handle a walk, the Shepherd's Walk departs from Löze on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., with breakfast at Maso Lena and return to the square around 12:30 p.m. The cost is €15 for adults and €10 for children, payable on site. The route is not suitable for strollers or prams, but child carriers are available upon request.
On Saturday and Sunday, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the square hosts the Festival del Gusto (Festival of Taste) , featuring food stands, a farmers' market, and local producers. The star of the show is the Caseificio Sociale di Predazzo e Moena, with its Puzzone di Moena DOP and Mezzano di Malga cheeses.
On Saturday at 11:30 a.m., Val di Fiemme chefs will be cooking live in the square, using only locally sourced ingredients. Afterward, guests will sample the farmer's dish (nettle dumplings with goat cheese cream, sausage, polenta, mushrooms, cabbage and speck salad, plus two strudels) for a starting price of €10 per person. Also on Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there's the Treno del Gusto (Taste Train ): a tour of the stables and an aperitif with a cheese tasting and a glass of Trentodoc. The price is €15 for adults and €12 for children under 12. Meet at Caffè Croce.
On Sunday, lunch is served with a festive menu prepared by the Alpine Group at the former Löze riding stables, or with street food in the square. The afternoon continues with music by Fleimstaler and, from 6:00 PM, by Mountain Crew. Those who prefer to sit down at a restaurant can take advantage of Autunno in Tavola , the event that from September 26th to October 4th brings menus featuring Mezzano di Malga and seasonal products to participating restaurants. Reservations are recommended.
Friday, October 2nd. At 9:00 PM at the Cinema Teatro Predazzo, there's a concert by Michael McDermott & Band, for adults who want to start their weekend early.
Saturday, October 3rd. Shepherd's Walk at 8:30 a.m., opening of the Festival del Gusto at 9:00 a.m., Piccolo Casaro at 10:30 a.m., show cooking at 11:30 a.m., Treno del Gusto from 2:00 p.m., children's readings at 4:30 p.m. In the evening, at 9:00 p.m. at the former riding stables, Love Generation will perform a '90s live show.
Sunday, October 4th. Taste Festival starting at 9:00 am, workshops at the Geological Museum and in the square, cow parade at 11:00 am, Desmontegada lunch starting at 12:00 pm, music in the afternoon, dinner at the former riding stables with the Spritz Band starting at 8:30 pm.
